Munich - 6.0

I watched Munich about a month ago and I was waiting for inspiration before I wrote this review, but I still haven't really thought of much to say about it so here is a non-review review. In short, I found the movie fairly dull, but I really liked the last 20 minutes, which are arguably the most important part of the movie. In fact, I'd say the ending saved the movie to some degree. Still, not great, not horrible either, just pretty average, and for Spielberg that is a disappointment.

Hail to the Freakin' Moron

Just when I thought world leaders couldn't get any dumber, El Presidente comes through big time .... twice! These two fuck-ups really do show the depth of his idiocy. He both lacks interpersonal skills and doesn't understand a damn thing about what is going on in the Middle East. Bravo, W. Bravo.

Runaway

Before this weekend, whenever I would drive past one of those Runaway truck ramps, I'd always wonder what would happen if I happened to veer off and go up it at 80 miles per hour. Well, now I know. Mostly it involves 10 noisy seconds and then waiting for a tow truck ... for several hours ... in the middle of nowhere ... in the middle of the night ... in the rain ... while praying that none of the traffic that is flying by at 85 mph happens to be a brakeless 18-wheeler. Still, now I can cross this off my (completely hypothetical, not-existent) list of things to do before I die, so it was well worth the delay.

Oh, and also, Alexa gets back from Europe in like 4 hours. Whooo!

Two New Songs

Voxtrot - Mothers, Sisters, Daughters and Wives (mp3)

Peter Bjorn and John - Young Folks (mp3)

Both of these songs are pretty damn catchy. I didn't think I liked the Peter Bjorn and John song until I found myself singing it for like 2 hours straight while playing Geometry Wars and cleaning last night. The Voxtrot song is kind of like Wolf Parade, just much, much better. I'll have a new mix up soon so keep an eye out for that.

Izzy is King

Yeah, Zidane's headbutt yesterday was pretty great, but Izzy is still the king of sports fights.

PS - I implore anyone who says Zidane's headbutt didn't hurt to invite your friend/neighbor/a total stranger to headbutt you in the chest. It will hurt; I promise.

Thank you, Oz

The first five episodes of Deadwood, Oz's one true heir, have been pretty incredible. I'd say it's been the best thing on TV this year by a pretty wide margin. Let's just hope it doesn't fizzle like Sopranos. HBO led the Emmy nominations this year, and with new seasons of The Wire and Rome following up the current lineup (Lucky Louie is freakin' hilarious by the way), it looks like they've got at least one more year of Emmy lovin' coming thier way.

New Sashaisms

Man, I know I've been slack when Sasha has two posts in a row. Well, to pay homage to the blog's new leader, here are 2 new Sashaisms:

"I'm in NY and I just got done watching muppets have sex with my mom. Not with my mom. I watched muppets have sex ... with my mom."
- Sasha, who comes from a very close family. 6/15/06 10:20pm

"I just want to see Snakes on a mother-fucking Train!"
- Sasha, who should clearly run a movie studio. 6/30/06 10:35pm

These lips don't lie

I was listening to Iron and Wine/Calexico's album tonight when suddenly the soothing sounds of a bleating singer/songwriter was replaced by the latin rhythms of Shakira. It seems that my hands had inserted el musica de caliente into my otherwise model indie playlist. Oh DJ, forgive this humble man, but I can't get her song out of my head. "Hips don't lie" swivels inside my brain like a coke-addicted hamster. I think I may have sampled her entire catalogue in the last hour. I am trying to save my indie cred by listening to the new TV on the Radio album, but my mind kept coming back to the fiery lyrical spasms of that Columbian siren. Indie rock sounds like a manatee mating song next to that Latin groove. Am I doomed to descend into a Ricky Martin-flavored circle of hell?
